Natural treatment of Pink Eye

Pink eye can be viral, bacterial, or allergenic in nature. It is very contagious and will often move to the other eye, so proactively treating both is usually the best bet! Here’s some options to try!
Manuka honey drops
Manuka honey has antibiotic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Dissolve 1/3 tsp raw manuka honey with 1/3 C warm filtered water.
Place 1-2 drops into each eye 4 times a day or as needed.
Breast milk
If you’re lactating, breast milk can also help! There aren’t many official studies, but tons of anecdotal evidence to back this one up! And it makes sense, because breast milk has so many antimicrobial properties, and that is something that IS well researched! Just place a few drops into the eye multiple times a day.
Colloidal silver
Colloidal silver is something that has been used to prevent and treat infections dating back to
ancient Roman and Greek times. It is something I use very specifically and mindfully because, just like antibiotics, silver cannot distinguish between beneficial bacteria and harmful microorganisms. It works at a cellular level by interfering with bacteria/fungal energy production. For pink eye, you can place 1-2 drops (5-10ppm) in each eye 4 times daily. I use and recommend the @sovereignsilver brand.
Tea Poultice
Take 2 organic green tea or chamomile tea bags and steep, allow to cool completely.
Add a splash of organic, raw apple cider vinegar (with the mother). We use @bragg.
You can lay the tea bags directly over the eyes for 10-15 minutes, or soak a clean cloth and apply to the eye.
Green tea has been shown to have antibacterial properties (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16582024/) and chamomile tea is anti-inflammatory and soothing. Make sure to use a clean cloth for each eye and each time.
Comfort measures
Warm compresses, @leefyorganics for inflammation and pain. Diluted lavender oil (applied to a q-tip) along the cheekbone and brow bone – take care not to get any oil into the eyes, Similasan Pink Eye Relief (homeopathic eyebright).
